Answer:

A complete eye exam involves a series of test designed to evaluate your vision and check for eye diseases. You will be asked to fill out a form so that we can review your current medical history because many diseases have associated eye problems. It is also important that you tell us about any medications that you are taking including all over the counter medications. You will also be asked to provide information about your lifestyle. This is important to us so that we may prescribe appropriate eyeglasses, contact lenses or therapy based on your visual needs. During your exam, please tell the technician what you hope to accomplish during your visit so that we can fullfill your goals.

We measure visual acuity on all of our patients to determine your eye-glass prescription. We will evaluate you eye muscle coordination and assess the front of your eye with a microscope. A glaucoma test will be performed and your eyes will be dilated so that a complete retina evaluation may be performed as well.

Yes, a contact lens prescription can be obtianed. If you are interested in contact lenses please discuss this with your physician so that the appropriate prescription can be written. It is important that the lens be properly fitted for the continued health of your cornea.

20/20 vision simply means that at 20 feet you see what the average person sees at 20 feet. If you had 20/200 vision, you would see at 20 feet what the average person can see at 200 feet. Even if you have 20/20 vision you are still at risk for eye disease and should have a dilated eye exam each year.
